~ Sirens have been sounding repeatedly throughout the evening and beyond midnight in southern Israel amid a fresh barrage of rockets being fired from Gaza. Sirens are continuing at the time of this update.
~ Many explosions have been heard. One rocket landed in the Israeli town of Netivot; no injuries reported.
~ Israel has tonight launched another air strike against terror targets in the Gaza Strip following the second wave of attacks against Israel. In the last few moments, the IDF confirmed that IAF fighter jets, attack helicopters and aircraft struck 25 Hamas targets. It followers earlier strikes by Israel on 35 Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in response to a barrage of 70 rockets and mortars fired from Gaza during the day.
~ The UN Security Council will meet Wednesday at the request of the United States.
~ Earlier reports in the media of a ceasefire brokered by Egypt was denied by senior Israeli official.

~ A renewed barrage of missiles launched from Gaza brings the number of rockets fired towards Israeli civilians today to over 100.
~ Three IDF soldiers were injured by rocket shrapnel.
~ Sirens in southern Israel have continued this evening.
~ The latest attack follows early morning strikes by Iran-backed “Islamic Jihad” group, in which a mortar shell landed in an Israeli kindergarten playground one hour before children arrived.
~ Most of the rockets fired from Gaza were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome.
~ In response, Israeli Air Force jets strike over 35 terror sites in seven locations belonging to Hamas or Islamic Jihad. Sites include a tunnel, command positions and weapons cache.
~Yet another Hamas attack tunnel was destroyed by Israel, this time near the the Kerem Shalom humanitarian crossing – the 10th Hamas terror tunnel destroyed in Gaza since October 2017
REACTION:
~ The UK’s Middle East Minister, Alistair Burt, has condemned the attack on Israel. He said, “Indiscriminate attacks against civilians, especially those that risk killing or injuring children, are completely unacceptable under any circumstances.”
~ Joining the UK in condemning the attacks are the US, Ireland, France, Italy, EU and UN.
~ Israel’s Intelligence Minister says Jewish State is closest to war since 2014. In first since 2014, rockets from Gaza reach 24km inside Israel.

~ The Israeli Navy has apprehended a Palestinian boat as part of an organised “flotilla” that attempted to breach the legal naval blockade. The boat is reportedly being towed to the Israeli Navy base in Ashdod.

~ 28 mortars were fired from Gaza into southern Israel this morning in at least three separate barrages.
~ Some mortars landed in the playground of an Israeli kindergarten, one hour before children were due to arrive. One adult was injured by shrapnel.
~ Israel’s Iron-Dome intercepted most of the mortars.
~ The Iran-backed Islamic Jihad group has claimed responsibility.
~ The shelling appears to be the largest attack from the Gaza Strip since the 2014 war, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge.
~ Israel has responded with targeted air-strikes in Gaza.

~ A “flotilla” of boats seeking to breach Israel’s naval barrier were blocked by the Israeli Navy
~ The main vessel, a fishing boat all “Al-Hurriyah” was said to carry 35 Palestinians who are either “injured and seeking treatment or want to study abroad”.
~ The boat’s intended destination was said to be Cyprus, and it set off from a Gaza port surrounded by dozens of smaller boats manned by supporters of the effort.
~ According to the IDF spokesperson’s office Hamas was able to stop some of the boats from crossing the nine pile limit of the fishing waters and Israeli navy ships stopped the rest.

~ Hamas’s leader in Gaza said the terror group had reached an agreement with Egypt to prevent riots on the border with Israel from escalating to a fresh conflict with Israel, but warned it would not rule out the possibility of an armed clash in the future.
~ A number of bullets have hit a house in Sderot, Israel, caused by stray shots fired by Hamas in Gaza. An IDF tank has struck a Hamas post in response. Otherwise protests were relatively calm compared with earlier in the week.
~ Israel has reportedly offered to immediately accept Palestinian patients to Israeli hospitals or to allow the transfer of medical equipment and medicine to hospitals in the Gaza Strip. It follows the refusal by Israel to allow Turkey to airlift the injured.
~ The dispute with Turkey has deepened following the expulsion of Israel’s Ambassador yesterday. Turkish authorities humiliated the Ambassador as he departed for Israel, breaking diplomatic protocol by subjecting him to an airport security check that was filmed on Turkish TV.
~ An Israeli news crew have been physically attacked in Istanbul.
~ Iran’s Tasnim news agency reports Iranian President Rouhani will travel to Turkey in the next few days.

~ The main border crossing into Gaza has been reopened after Palestinians set fire to it for the third time in two weeks, cutting off Gaza’s fuel and gas pipeline. Shipments of medical supplies have crossed today, but Hamas prevented hundreds of lorries of goods, including food, into Gaza.
~ A student organisation in Iran has offered a $100,000 reward to whoever bombs the new US Embassy in Jerusalem, according to Farsi-language reports.

~ 10 explosive devices targeting Israelis were detonated during yesterday’s riots at the Gaza-Israel border; gunfire was reported on at least 3 occasions; 17 kites carrying firebombs were dispatched intoIsrael, igniting 23 fires.
~ Approximately 40,000 Palestinians protested in more than a dozen locations along border fence. Palestinians sources report that 58 rioters were killed in the violence, including a baby who died after inhaling tear gas.
~ Hamas is offering Palestinian families $100 to participate in violent riots at the Gaza-Israel border with higher monetary payouts for wounded rioters and fatalities.
~ There are also reports that Hamas have distributed maps showing shortest root to Israeli communities once border is breached.
~ Hamas press conference last night said, “The mass popular movement and the marches are continuing and will continue… Our people’s marches have provoked the enemy to more bloodshed.”

~ Hamas social media is encouraging the rioters taking part in the violence on the Israel-Gaza fence to bring knives & guns with them, and to kidnap Israeli civilians.
~ Gaza border crossing was set on fire for third time – has reopened today. It follows setting on fire by Hamas of oil and gas lines to cut off supplies to Gazan residents.
