Terrorists from Gaza fired a rocket into southern Israel late Thursday on Israel’s Independence Day.

“As Israeli Independence Day comes to a close, terrorists in Gaza fired a rocket at Israel,” the Israel Defense Forces tweeted.

“73 years after declaring independence, our fight to defend our freedom continues every day.”

The rocket exploded in an open space. No casualties or damage were reported.

In response to the rocket fire, the Israel Defense Forces attacked Hamas terrorist targets in Gaza, the IDF said Friday.

“IDF fighter jets and aircraft had recently attacked a short time ago munitions manufacturing site, a weapons smuggling tunnel and a military post of the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Office said in a statement.

“The attack was carried out in response to rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory earlier tonight.”
