The United Nations is once again singling out the only Jewish state in the world and to our shame, the UK government is supporting the vast majority of these resolutions.

Last Friday, the United Nations voted to condemn Israel on eight resolutions. The UK voted for all but one of these. Then this week the UN again condemned Israel with one of the resolution writers being North Korea, one of the world’s worst abusers of human rights.

All EU members states voted together in these matters, condemning Israel for a number of offences, such as “affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people”. These resolutions never once mentioned Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad who in Gaza are brutally oppressing and abusing the Palestinian people under their control. Not to mention the fact that these terrorist groups have launched more than 400+ rockets into Israel in the last few weeks, targeting only Israeli civilians and impeding “affecting the human rights” of Israelis.

Shamefully there was one resolution that attempted to erase the Jewish connection to Jerusalem when it labelled the Temple Mount only by the Islamic name “al-Haram Sharif”. This resolution removed the English and Hebrew names for the site, which should concern every Christian and Jews living on earth. The UN is supposed to uphold religious freedom for all, yet this resolution refuses to acknowledge the importance, especially to the Jewish people, of their Temple Mount.

Sadly, even this was not enough for European nations to object to the resolution. The most they could muster was a small threat to abstain in the future if the wording was not correct.

The only resolution the European bloc abstained from was the resolution to investigate Israel on an issue. Some 78 countries abstained from this resolution.

The ninth resolution was passed this week and was sponsored by North Korea, Egypt, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe and the “State of Palestine,” the resolution, titled “The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” cites a 2004 International Court of Justice ruling on Israel’s security barrier, which said that “the construction of the wall by Israel, the occupying power, in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem … severely impedes the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”

It is important to understand that the security barrier in Israel managed to almost completely stop suicide bombings from Palestinian terrorists. During the Second Intifada, Jewish civilians were being blown up on buses and inside restaurants. Families were targetted specifically with many children being killed this way. Israel was forced to construct this barrier to stop terrorists from simply walking across the border with a bomb strapped to them.

This graph below shows the height of the terrorist attacks against Israel. The UN condemned Israel for this barrier starting in 2004, even when Israelis were being killed by terrorists. Today, these attacks and fatalities are vastly reduced because of the security measures Israel has been forced to implement.

Israel did not want to build this wall, it had to.

More than this, the UN resolution also referred to Judaism’s holiest sites as being “occupied”, including the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter.

The problem with the UN’s anti-Israel bias is that many people around the world look up to the UN as a credible voice and authority in the world. They do not realise that brutal dictatorships like North Korea are able to condemn nations like Israel and the whole world (bar a handful of countries) goes along with them. The Bible teaches us that in the last days “all the nations” will turn against Israel. The United Nations is a good example of how this is happening.

No other country is singled out in this manner and that’s why this anti-Israel bias is clearly anti-Semitic. Israel is treated differently from the rest of the world because it is the world’s only Jewish state.

In future, the UK government should automatically vote “No” on all of these anti-Israel resolutions. It is wrong that Israel is the only country singled out by the UN in this manner. Not to mention the fact these one-sided resolutions condemn Israel for minor offences or even falsehoods whilst the Palestinians are given a free ride. It is shameful that the UK goes along with such things. We must tell our government to stand with Israel.
