The Vatican has expressed concern over the US decision to label Israeli settlements as “legal”. However, the Bible clearly has a different view on this.

The Vatican didn’t specifically cite the US conclusion that Israel’s West Bank settlements don’t violate international law. But the reference appears clear when it speaks of “the recent decisions that risk undermining further the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the already fragile regional stability” in the Middle East.

The Holy See reiterated its support for a “two-state solution for two peoples, as the only way to reach a complete solution to this age-old conflict.”

Adding it supports Israel’s right to “live in peace and security within the borders recognized by the international community” and supports “the same right that belongs to the Palestinian people, which must be recognized, respected and implemented.”

As Christians we must look at Israel through the lens of the Bible, not through the eyes of the international community.

We know that all nations will turn against Israel in the last days and we are witnessing this happen at global bodies such as the United Nations.

The Bible, on the other hand, explains that the whole land of Israel, which includes Judea and Samara, was given to the Jewish people as an eternal inheritance. This command from God is unbreakable.

Therefore, it is not right for the Vatican to say that Israel should be “within the borders recognised by the international community” if the international community is at odds with what the Bible says.

The US recognising Israeli town (settlements) in Judea and Samaria (the so-called West Bank) as part of Israel is the right thing to do. They are not illegal under international law and the borders of Israel should not be defined by global consensus. We must instead stand by what God says in His Word.

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24

We call upon the UK Government to officially recognise Jerusalem is Israel's capital and move its embassy to Jerusalem.
