“Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling.”
Psalm 2:10-11
This week, we are praying for Britain to get back to serving the God of Israel. We have a new Prime Minister, there has been a shake-up in ministerial positions in the Government, and there is real concern that Britain will continue its negative trajectory of cursing Israel.
When God says He will bless nations who bless Israel and curse nations that curse Israel (Genesis 12:3), we believe Him. That is why we are concerned for the soul of our nation.
New leadership, same anti-Israel attitudes.
Andy Burnham has taken over the reins from Sir Keir Starmer. The Labour Party has been in power for two years, and support for Israel has been lacking. Under Starmer, Britain formally recognised “Palestine” as a state. This action goes against the God of Israel, as it was an attempt to divide the land that God gave to the Jewish people and to take the holy sites of Judaism away from Israel.
New Prime Minister Andy Burnham shamefully seems set to continue this path of cursing Israel. In recent weeks, Burnham has said Britain should “do more to put pressure on the Israeli government,” including considering further restrictions on arms exports and action against illegal West Bank settlements.
“I know many people feel that at the start of Israel’s military action in Gaza, my party didn’t get it right, and I am sorry about that,” Burnham said. The party was “too slow to call for a ceasefire.”
Britain’s new defence secretary, Wes Streeting, who had previously claimed the IDF had committed “war crimes” in Gaza, made his first comments on Israel since taking office to accuse the IDF of falling short of UK military standards. This is not a British governmental position, but his own interpretation. As one British war expert said in response, “criticising military operations without proof of misconduct is the height of political irresponsibility.”
Not only is Israel operating at the highest standards possible, but Israel has also provided more humanitarian aid to its enemy than any other country in the history of warfare. Israel is doing everything to preserve life in Gaza, while Hamas is doing everything to destroy life in Gaza.
On top of politics, we have the established Church in Britain continuing to curse Israel through its promotion of the Kairos Palestine documents, under the leadership of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally. Something we have spoken about at length this week.
Politically and spiritually, Britain needs to wake up!
The new leadership of Britain is once again cursing Israel instead of blessing Israel. The spreading of lies against Israel and falsely painting Israel as a bad actor is dangerous. This sort of rhetoric only fuels hatred of Israel and endangers those who support the world’s only Jewish state.
Israel should be commended for the truth of its actions, not vilified because of lies. And our leaders should be wiser. That is why we must pray for our nation!
CUFI Prayer:
May the God of Israel rule Britannia.
May righteousness exalt our nation.
May the Church be awakened.
May the Gospel be proclaimed.
May Britain come to repentance.
May Israel be blessed.
May the Jewish people be protected.
May the innocent be defended.
May the fear of the Lord bring wisdom.
May truth reign in this land.Amen
