Antisemites who deny Israel’s right to the Land have a great big fear – historical evidence. That is why anti-Israel activists tried and sadly succeeded in shutting down a lecture at the British Museum this week as part of Jewish Culture Month, which was titled “Ancient Israel and Judah in the British Museum”.

As our article on the story states, “Historical evidence proves what antisemites fear most – Israel’s existence is ancient and undeniable. Palestinian revisionism relies on a distortion of history..,.The danger for pro-Palestinian activists is that this lecture would have undermined the very basis of their anti-Israel narrative.”

The Jewish people’s connection to the land is supported by vast amounts of historical evidence, which is why the British Museum’s role in explaining and preserving historical evidence is so important. The Museum should not have capitulated. Among the treasures on display and stored in the Museum’s volts, are signposts pointing to the Judeo-Christian heritage that are the bedrock of British heritage. If we do not defend this heritage, we fail the Jews and we fail the fundamental values that have formed part of our Christian heritage also.

The Jewish connection is also supported Biblically; in fact archaeology supports, and does not contradict, the Bible’s claims. The pages of the Bible point repeatedly to Israel’s heritage, and as we pray, we stand on the evidence of these promises. We have seen, we have heard, we have believed, and now we must proclaim Israel’s heritage and defend it.

Genesis 6:8:
“And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am the Lord.”

Micah 7:4:
“Shepherd Your people with Your staff, the flock of Your heritage, who dwell solitarily in a woodland, in the midst of Carmel; let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in days of old.”

Joel 3:2:
“I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land.”

Psalm 135:10-12
He defeated many nations
And slew mighty kings—
Sihon king of the Amorites,
Og king of Bashan,
And all the kingdoms of Canaan—
And gave their land as a heritage,
A heritage to Israel His people.

This is why those who oppose Israel are attacking the Jewish people’s heritage. But here is the good news: this heritage is past, present and future. God’s promises to His people are everlasting. We stand on this firm foundation and declare, “Am Yisrael Chai”
