A Palestinian Authority mouthpiece has made an outrageous claim that 2,000 jews moving to Israel is a “greater disaster” than the thousands of Ukrainians being murdered and the millions of refugees fleeing to Europe after Russia invaded Ukraine. It is a prime example of how, no matter what is happening in the world, the Palestinian perspective is that they are the world’s greatest victims in every situation.
The absurd claim came by way of the Palestinian Authority’s daily newspaper which featured an article headlined, “Disaster for one [Ukrainians] is a greater disaster for another [Palestinians].”
This headline is a twist on the popular Arabic proverb: “Disaster for one is profit for another.”

Wording from the PA article:
Headline: “Disaster for one [Ukrainians] is a greater disaster for another [Palestinians]”
“The World Zionist Organization’s Settlement Division announced that it has begun a process to establish 1,000 housing units in settlements (sic., as noted below in the article, none of the locations are in the West Bank) to absorb Jews fleeing from Ukraine.
Chairman of the World Zionist Organization’s Settlement Division Yishai Merling revealed that before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war he formulated a detailed plan to establish temporary houses for the Jewish families in Ukraine that are planning to emigrate to Israel. He said that he presented the emergency plan to World Zionist Organization Chairman and Acting Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel Yaakov Hagoel.
The plan includes housing structures on territories ranging from 55 square meters to 90 square meters, and they will serve as sites for absorbing the new Jewish immigrants.
According to the emergency plan, the structures will be established in areas next to the northern borders, in the Negev, Arava, the Valley of Springs that is next to Beit Shean, and the Jordan Valley.”

Just think about that for a moment. The Palestinian Authority is claiming that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, the creation of millions of refugees, tens-of-billions of pounds in damage, the loss of food production from one of the breadbaskets of the world, a breakdown in global trade, a surge in oil prices and economic instability and harm for a number of countries is not as bad as 2,000 Jewish families moving to Israel.
As Palestinian Media Watch points out, this can only come from an insular Palestinian worldview that judges all events based on how it impacts the Palestinians.
Another aspect of the article is that it claims Israel is building “settlements” to house the new immigrants. However, the 1,000 housing units being built to accommodate the new arrivals are in Israel ‘proper’. Not Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) or any disputed land.
The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Education has made it clear, even as recently as a 16 November 2021 post on Facebook that they view “Palestine” as being “the entire land… from the [Mediterranean] Sea to the [Jordan] River.”
PMW explains that in one short article the PA is exposing both its narcissism as well as its fundamental lie to the international community that it recognizes Israel’s right to exist. The PA is so against Israel they cannot see the foolishness of their own words.
