On the day that war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, Jeremy Corbyn and a number of his cohorts held a debate in the British parliament denouncing Israel and calling for “the immediate and unconditional recognition of the state of Palestine.”

Remarkably, on the same day, the United Nations Human Rights Council also announced they had chosen their permanent investigator for the Palestinian territories – a lifelong anti-Israel campaigner who on the same day that Russia invaded Ukraine, was campaigning for the anti-Israel boycott movement calling for people to “Sanction Apartheid Israel”.

The British parliamentary debate was prearranged, and the UN had appointment was foreseen, but the timings of them could not have been clearer to those with an eye on Bible prophecy.

We often note that some of the big events happening around Israel occur at key times for the Jewish people. UN resolutions condemning Israel have occurred during Jewish feasts. For example, Resolution 2334 which the Obama Administration infamously allowed to pass, where they removed the Jewish connection to their ancient holy sites in Jerusalem, took place on the eve of Hanukkah.

Russia is a nation that many Christians believe will be involved in End Time prophecy, particularly coming against Israel. It is therefore quite ominous that a debate delegitimising the Jewish claim to their ancient homeland would take place in our nation’s parliament as Russian troops began waging a war.

Ukraine is a Western aligned nation that is supportive of Israel. Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy is Jewish, the grandson of Holocaust survivors. His government was likely going to recognise Jerusalem and open an embassy there this year during a planned visit in 2022 that now looks unlikely to take place.

Seeing an anti-Israel debate in the British Parliament on the day this significant world event began should raise alarm bells for Christian watchmen over Israel. There were a number of voices for and against the recognition of a Palestinian state. And the response from the UK government was a rather lacklustre, “not yet”.

Ultimately, we believe the UK should not recognise a Palestinian state on land that belongs to Israel. The Bible is clear that God gave Israel to the Jewish people as an eternal inheritance and that God will judge anyone that seeks to divide that land.

Ephesians 6:12 teaches us, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Let us have wisdom as we take these issues to God in prayer. We know that there is a spiritual battle over Britain and Israel. And our prayer is that the UK will be the Tarshish of the Bible that stands with Israel in the End Times.

We call upon the UK Government to officially recognise Jerusalem is Israel's capital and move its embassy to Jerusalem.
