Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi vowed on Tuesday to continue military operations to counter Iran’s military capabilities, including its nuclear program.
Israel and its intelligence community “is working against Iranian regional entrenchment throughout the Middle East,” Kohavi said. “Operations to destroy Iranian capabilities will continue – in various arenas and at any time.”
“The operational plans against Iran’s nuclear program will continue to evolve and improve,” he added. Whatever developments there may be, “it is our duty to provide an effective and timely military response.”
Israel considers Iran its greatest threat and last week Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned the United Nations that Iran’s nuclear programme is at a crucial point that cannot be left alone any longer.
“Iran’s nuclear weapon program is at a critical point. All red lines have been crossed. Inspections, ignored. All wishful thinking, proven false,” he said.
“Iran is violating the IAEAs safeguard agreements, and it’s getting away with it. They harass inspectors and sabotage their investigations, and they’re getting away with it. They enrich uranium to the level of 60 percent, which is one step short of weapons-grade material, and they’re getting away with it,” he continued.
“Evidence which clearly proves Iran’s intentions for nuclear weapons in secret sites in Turquzabad, Teheran and Marivan is ignored,” he claimed.
Israel’s leader warned that the world needs to stop talking and take action or Israel will be forced to act alone.
“Iran’s nuclear program has hit a watershed moment. And so has our tolerance. Words do not stop centrifuges from spinning,” he said, hinting Israel could act against Iran’s nuclear program.
“We will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon,” he vowed.
