Israel’s government helped fly in a 6-year-old boy from Ethiopia for heart treatment at an Israeli charity that performs life-saving heart surgery on needy children around the world.

Currently, travel into Israel is highly restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore getting children into the country who need these surgeries is proving challenging. Fortunately, a solution was for young Benjamin as he travelled from Ethiopia to Israel aboard a flight that was sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel to bring Ethiopian Jewish families making Aliyah from the country in mid-February.

Despite his name having Hebrew origins, Benjamin is not himself Jewish but was allowed aboard the flight so he could come to Israel for treatment.

Israeli charity Save a Child’s Heart (SACH), along with the Wolfson medical Center in Holon will be providing treatment to the youngster, just as they have been for thousands of children around the world over the last 25 years.

He is currently being hosted at the organization’s Legacy Heritage Children’s home while he undergoes an initial examination that will enable doctors to determine his treatment.

Sylvan Adams, a major donor to SACH, said “SACH’s work exemplifies the big heart of Israel and the ancient Jewish imperative of tikkun olam, ‘improving the world.’ A big ‘thank you’ to the government of Israel for allowing these special travel exemptions so that children can have the chance to live a normal life.”

We pray that Benjamin will receive all the treatment and care he needs to make a full recovery in Israel. And God bless Israel for having such a heart to help children who are in need all around the world.
