Israeli Border Police shot a terrorist attempting a stabbing attack at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron early Wednesday, Israel Police said.

The 22-year-old Palestinian suffered moderate injury to the lower body and was transferred to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, police said, to be treated before interrogation.

Police said no one else was injured in the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli security forces apprehended another Palestinian who pulled out a screwdriver at the Qalandia checkpoint, located outside of Jerusalem. Israeli officials said he “most likely” attempted to stab a border guard. They reported no one harmed.

This is the latest in an uptick in attempted attacks on Israeli military posts in recent days. Last week saw an attempted ramming attack near Jenin last Saturday, in the northern West Bank, with none injured.

A Palestinian was killed last week after attempting to stab Israeli soldiers at Gush Etzion junction in the West Bank.
