Prime Minister Boris Johnson has welcomed the peace agreement between Israel and the UAE, which was announced by President Trump on Thursday.

Johnson tweeted: “The UAE and Israel’s decision to normalize relations is hugely good news.”

He also praised that the agreement prevented Israel’s anticipated annexation of parts of Judea and Samaria. “It was my profound hope that annexation did not go ahead in the West Bank and today’s agreement to suspend those plans is a welcome step on the road to a more peaceful Middle East.”

However, PM Netanyahu said on Thursday that there was “no change” to his goal of extending sovereignty over the areas in question and the delay only amounted to a “temporary hold.”

“Today we usher in a new era of peace between Israel and the Arab world,” Netanyahu said. “There is a good chance we will soon see more Arab countries joining this expanding circle of peace.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who played an important role in securing the deal, termed it as an “enormous” step forward on the “right path”.

Behrain, Oman and Egypt have welcomed the historic peace agreement between the UAE and Israel.
