You may be trying to work out what that headline is all about. Did Spain’s Prime Minister really say that he would wipe out Israel if his country had nukes? Well, yes. That seems to be what he was saying.
Read for yourself:
“Spain, as you know, does not have nuclear bombs, aircraft carriers, or large oil reserves. We alone cannot stop the Israeli offensive, but that does not mean we will stop trying, because there are causes worth fighting for, even if it is not solely in our hands to win them.” – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez
So, Spain can’t nuke Israel and wipe out the world’s only Jewish state, and half the world’s Jews with a single bomb, to end the war. It doesn’t have aircraft carriers or a strong enough military to go to war against Israel. But that “does not mean we will stop trying.”
You can also watch him saying it here:
El impresentable de @sanchezcastejon: "Lo siento, no tenemos bombas nucleares para impedir que Israel ataque Gaza".
En su desesperación se volvió un chiflado vocero de Hamás. pic.twitter.com/zv0i8aq5zt

This statement is outrageous. Israel is so tiny that a single nuke would wipe out the entire country. This is why it’s so important for Israel to stop Iran from acquiring one. Likewise, half of the world’s Jewish population lives in Israel. Nuking Israel would kill half of all Jews in existence. To make such statements is akin to those of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders who fantasize about wiping out the world’s only Jewish state.
Israel’s Prime Minister’s office said Spain’s leader was making “blatant genocidal threats.”
Adding: “Apparently, the Spanish Inquisition, the expulsion of the Jews of Spain and the systematic mass murder of Jews in the Holocaust, is not enough for Sanchez. Incredible.”

Shamefully, Spain’s seeming threat to wipe out Israel has been met with silence. There is no global outrage against Spain. No word leaders are condemning it. Once again, Israel is allowed to be threatened with elimination and the world doesn’t care.
The Spanish government has become extremely anti-Israel in recent years and it is coming from the top of government. Pedro Sánchez has been leading the charge.
In terms of recognising a Palestinian state, Spain was ahead of the curve. It was May 2024 when the Spanish government gave formal recognition to a Palestinian state, just seven months after the Hamas atrocities of October 7th.
Spain’s recognition led the way for France, Australia, Luxembourg, Malta, Belgium, Canada, and, of course, the UK, planning to recognise Palestine as a state in September 2025. Although, it should be noted that each one of these countries made their own mind up and each one will be held responsible by God Almighty.
In addition to wanting to divide God’s land and seemingly wanting to wipe out the world’s only Jewish state, the Spanish government has also taken more punitive actions against Israel.
Spain is pressuring Eurovision to kick Israel out of the competition by saying it will not compete unless Israel is banned.
Furthermore, if Israel qualifies for the World Cup 2026, Spain has said it will consider withdrawing from the competition.
Basically, the Spanish government Israel banned from all sports. Just watch how long the applause is, and how many people are clapping in the Spanish parliament. Shameful.
It should be noted that Israel has not qualified for the World Cup since 1970. That was when it was a team in Asia (after all, the Middle East is in Asia). Unfortunately, because of the hostility from Muslim nations in Asia who refused to compete against Israel. This means Israel must compete against European teams to qualify for the World Cup, and since the standard of football is far higher in Europe, it makes Israel’s path to qualification far harder than if it was competing against Asian countries. This is another example of how even in supposed neutral arenas, like sports, Israel is handicapped because of the Jew hatred of its neighbours.
The Spanish PM even praised anti-Israel protesters who disrupted sports events. After he praised them, the finale of the Vuelta cycling event was cancelled because the protesters blocked the event and clashed with police.
More importantly, Spain is carrying out boycotts of Israel that are causing economic damage. This includes an arms embargo which could cost Israel tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions (according to some estimates).
Sánchez is doing all of this because it appeals to his base. Opinion polls among Left wing Spaniards shows an increase of support for his government because he is outspoken in hatred against Israel.
It is shameful that Jew hate brings about gains in approval ratings. But we shouldn’t be surprised. We are seeing anti-Israel actions being taken throughout Europe, including in the UK, as government’s try to claw back voters. However, it shows there is a dire lack of integrity in these governments.
When Israel bashing becomes a policy of a government, that country is in trouble. God is clear in His Word that He will bless the nations that bless Israel and curse the nations that curse Israel (Genesis 12:3).
Christians in Spain must stand up and speak Biblical truth. Their nation is in jeopardy. The leaders of Spain are the most openly antisemitic in Europe and are taking the country down a dangerous path.
