Soft sand and strong storms
When the storm comes, only the things that are grounded in truth will stand. When the storm comes, only those things made with things to last will remain steadfast. The truth of God’s word is like a rock. The things rooted on soft sand will collapse; the things grounded on the rock will stand firm.
There is something grounding about Judeo-Christian values. They provide a foundation secured in the truth of the Bible. Over time they have weathered numerous storms. They have stood the test of time. They have sustained attack, but proven unwaveringly reliable. They have resisted the wind of conflict and survived rising floods. Those who have compromised by mixing rock and sand have seen no difference to those whose foundation is just sand. Only the rock of truth is a firm foundation upon which to build.
This week there are four areas to pray into. We must call them out as having foundations that are sand and not rock. If we do not call them out as foolish foundations, we fool ourselves and fail to speak up for truth.
Foundation #1 is the United Nations. Their newly released report by the UNHRC is utterly deplorable. Its foundation is flawed. There is no basis of truth. There is no substance upon which the report stands. The commission chose to cite Hamas sources and biased reporting, whilst ignoring Hamas’s tactics and motivations. Recognising the truth puts the report’s ‘genocide’ accusation to shame. Its methodology is weak; its personnel are known anti-Israel figures, and its so-called evidence fails to meet a legal threshold that must be met to fulfil a genocide claim. Its foundation is as weak as sand. There is no rock of truth to be found anywhere in the United Nations anymore.
Foundation #2 is the UK government’s policy on a two-state solution. It too fails to hold Hamas to account and is basing its proposed recognition of a Palestinian state on a weak, sandy foundation. If there was any desire to build on truth, this current government would reject a Palestinian state and remove its unrealistic conditions on Israel. Standing with Israel has been foundational in Britain’s commitment to the Jewish people and is part of the UK’s Judeo-Christian values. Britain must be warned that we undermine this foundation at our peril.
Foundation #3 is the conspiracy theories that have attempted to smear the name of Charlie Kirk and his stand with Israel. Charlie Kirk was a bold defender of Israel and the Jewish people. He spoke openly about the Biblical foundation upon which he based his views, and there he defended Israel’s right to defend itself and condemned antisemitism passionately. Despite the mass of evidence supporting this, baseless rumours founded on nothing but sand have tried to undermine this. It should be noted that before Charlie Kirk’s death, antisemites accused him of ‘working for Israel’; within minutes of his murder, antisemites were accusing Israel of killing him. If it tells us anything, it is proof that antisemitic conspiracy libels are well and truly back in vogue in 2025.
Foundation #4 is the belief that Israel should not continue its military campaign to take Gaza City. We have heard the same arguments when it came to western leaders ordering Israel not to enter Rafa. The result of ignoring that instruction was the discovery of Israeli hostages. Here is the truth: entering Gaza City would not be necessary if Hamas released the hostages and laid down its weapons; Hamas has rejected a ceasefire; Hamas started this war and could end it by surrendering. By recognising this as foundational in understanding the current dilemma facing Israel, we affirm Israel in its right to stand firm and continue until all the hostages are released and Hamas has been defeated.
May we continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and stand firm upon God’s truth.
