A prayer of repentance
after the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state.

Heavenly Father,
we come before You with heaviness of heart,
and with a burden over the decision made by our government.
Our nation’s governing leaders have divided up the Land of Israel,
but this is not in our name.

This is the Land promised to Your people, Israel, as an eternal inheritance,
Your Covenant with Israel can never be annulled.
We declare that no one has the authority to divide the Land,
For there is no higher authority than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
His Word is eternal. His promises are enduring.

Lord, we pray that our nation will repent of this wicked decision.
Our leaders have spoken with forked-tongues.
They speak to the Jewish people with words of comfort, yet act against their favour in ungodliness.
They make a mockery of their stand with Israel;
They saw what Israel has endured, but have betrayed Your people by choice.
They have closed their ears to the concerns of Israelis;
They have believed the lies of Jew-haters;
They have exchanged light for darkness; and have called evil good.

Many in our nation have forsaken Your laws, and despised Your promises to Israel.
Many in the Church have been silent when the Jewish people have been vilified and persecuted.
Many leaders in the Church have taught a false doctrine on Israel from their pulpits,
and have led Christians astray by their rejection of the truth.

They have chosen a path aligned with the world,
and even joined chorus with the voices of Israel’s enemies.
Lord, they do not speak in our  name.
Even so, Lord, have mercy on our nation.

May the Church repent and rise up with renewal and with boldness in this hour.
The days of lukewarmness are over,
A new era has dawned.
Awake, Church, and remove the cloaks of hypocrisy.
Lord, raise up servants surrendered to Your Word,
with the strength to stand, and the humility to lead,
who have not turned back in the day of battle, or lowered the knee to false gods.

Search our hearts, Lord, and see that we grieve over our nation’s decision.
Our leaders have given Israel’s enemies what they asked for;
Those who hate Jews are revelling in this decision;
They have declared victory, but they have set a date for their judgement.
We pray that Israel’s enemies will be humbled and turn from their wickedness.

Lord, we pray for the Jewish people worldwide.
We are burdened about the rise of antisemitism.
Israel’s enemies are celebrating their antisemitism with pride,
and they are now more emboldened and thirsty for more.
We rebuke the spirit of antisemitism wherever it exists:
in our Parliament, in our churches, in our universities and in our streets.
We pray for your protection upon Israel and upon Jews worldwide.

Lord, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem,
This City is chosen by You. It is not to be divided.
This City that You love more than all the dwelling places of Jacob,
will not fall into the custodianship of those who hate You.
Lord use me to be a voice for Zion’s sake,
and not be silent for Jerusalem sake,
“Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,
and her salvation as a lamp that burns.”

Lord, we trust in Your wonderful Name.
In the midst of troubling times, still our hearts and grant Your peace.
Your love never fails and your mercy endures forever.
There is no One like You, Lord.
We humble ourselves before You,
We ask for Your help to be faithful Watchmen,
and trustworthy friends to our Jewish brothers and sisters.
Use me for Your glory and for Israel’s blessing.

We bless the God of Israel.
We bless the nation of Israel.
We declare the words of the Lord to Aaron for the children of Israel:
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
AMEN
