Today marks a dark day in the modern history of the United Kingdom and its relationship with the world’s only Jewish state, Israel.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement today recognising a Palestinian state is a betrayal of the hostages, a reward for terrorism, a political attack on our greatest ally in the Mideast, and an undermining of the Bible.
The title deeds of the Land of Israel are not held in Number 10, Downing Street. They are contained in the Holy Word of God. Starmer does not have the authority to carve up Land that God has ordained in an everlasting covenant for the nation of Israel.
The recognition of a Palestinian state does not represent the people of the UK. A poll, conducted by JL Partners and published in the Daily Telegraph, says that only 13% of Britons support the unconditional recognition of a Palestinian state, and only 11% of Labour voters back Starmer’s decision. A majority of 51% are opposed to recognition while the Hamas is in leadership. The recognition also does not represent the tens of thousands of Christians who have campaigned against this move through CUFI UK.
It is shameful how nearly two years after the October 7th terror attacks, a legacy of the brutal murder, torture, rape and hostage-taking of Israelis is Britain recognising a Palestinian state.
Starmer has said that Hamas must not be in control of a Palestinian state, but he did not make it a condition for recognition. To demonstrate how dangerous this policy is, the leader of ‘Palestine Solidarity Campaign’, the largest pro-Palestinian movement in Britain, has today blasted Starmer for saying this, explaining that no outside influence should determine who rules a Palestinian state. Rather than harming Hamas, the Labour government’s decision has in fact strengthened Hamas’s position and emboldened Israel’s enemies. Let us also remember to pray for the UK Jewish community, which is already feeling under threat from rising antisemitism. This decision does nothing in aid of countering this.
Despite Starmer’s announcement, we are no clearer what a Palestinian state looks like, but we are clearer about the ‘state’ of the UK. We desperately need to rebuke this immoral and unbiblical decision, pray that it will be reversed in the future, and continue to stand with Israel and the Jewish people.
Pray for our nation; pray for the Jewish people; and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
