“And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land—before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods? For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God.”
(2 Samuel 7:23-24)
Right now, the world seems fragile. The future even in the short term feels unpredictable. “Wars and rumours of wars” fill the first few pages of our newspapers. Discussion among friends quickly turn to world events and speculation about “what on earth” is going on. At times like this, we must turn our attention from earth heavenwards: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth,” reads Colossians 3:2. In the prayer that the Lord Jesus taught His disciples, we pray “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
When it comes to Israel, stand on the promises that the Lord our God has made for His people. King David proclaimed in 2 Samuel 7, “who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name – and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land…” David closes his thanksgiving with, ““And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant. Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”
Today, let’s declare these words over Israel. Let’s bless Israel with our lips. Let’s exalt God’s goodness to His people. Stand on the authority of His Word. In this passage, David was promised “rest from all his enemies,” and this is a good thing to pray for when interceding for Israel at what seems to be a watershed moment for the Jewish nation.
– Pray that Hamas will release ALL the hostages, immediately.
– Pray that Israel will be victorious over Hamas, removing this evil antisemitic terror group.
– Pray for Israel during this Ramadan period, especially in light of calls by Hamas for Palestinians to commit terror attacks during the Islamic feast. Pray for Israel’s protection.
– Pray that Prime Minister Starmer’s meeting with released hostage, Eli Sharabi, on Friday will cause him to take a bolder approach in standing with Israel and that he will do all he can to put more pressure on Hamas to release the hostages. Pray that the UK government will have courage and clarity in doing what is right in support of the Jewish state.
– Pray for wisdom for President Trump, especially in light of America’s attempts to bring about the release of the hostages. Pray too for America’s dealings with Iran.
– Pray that a full investigation will take place into the BBC.
– With a Hamas book event taking place at one of Britain’s leading universities next week, pray that the LSE will cancel the event, or that LSE will be held to account for giving platform for a proscribed terror group. Pray also for Jewish students at this university, as well as for those at Cambridge University, which this week saw red paint daubed on the frontage of one of its historic colleges in protest against Israel.
– Continue to pray against the rise of antisemitism in the UK, praying blessing over the Jewish people.
Remember, God loves Israel, His very own people….FOREVER.
Thank you for praying with us today.
