Great Britain’s ties with Israel have never been stronger. Whilst the UK has not always been a faithful friend to the Jewish state, Britain has entered a new era in its relationship with the only democracy in the Middle East.
But in a climate that is widely hostile towards Israel, this relationship is being put to the test. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that as anti-Semitism is on the rise throughout the UK, the same evil forces that fuel hatred towards the Jewish people also want to see Britain’s ties with Israel – and indeed ties with the UK’s closest ally America – broken. We are, in that sense, at a crossroads.
At CUFI, we believe it is critical for Britain to ensure it’s on the right side of history concerning Israel. The word ‘Brit” means “covenant” in Hebrew and implies the shedding of blood in the process of ratifying an agreement. The word “Brit” is used throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, used especially for the several covenants made by God with His people, including the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob concerning the Land of Israel. Our prayer is that “Brit-ain” will be guardians and upholders of the promise God made to Israel and be faithful in keeping our own promise in standing with the Jewish people.
