The time for standing with the Jewish people is now.
One of the most significant threats to the State of Israel is that from the Iranian regime. The basis of this threat isn’t political – it is an anti-Semitic threat to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. It is a hatred for the Jewish people living in the only Jewish state in the world.
At CUFI, we firmly believe Britain is at a crossroads in relation to standing with Israel and feel called not to remain silent at this time.Click here to donate to CUFI
As Jews around the world celebrate Purim (20-21 March), the true story of Esther and her courageous intervention to save the Jewish people is remembered with fun and festivities as families gather together to re-enact the account (and eat delicious food, of course!).
The Biblical story was at the very centre of Middle East geopolitical events, with Persia (which included present-day Iran) being the largest kingdom the world had ever seen.
The potential imminent genocide of the Jewish people, much like the Holocaust that happened during the 20th Century, began with a non-violent form of antisemitism. It started with a hatred of the Jewish people, simply for being Jews.
Haman, an advisor to the king, told his leader, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them.” Esther 3:8-9
Notably, this attitude paved the way for a hatred so intense that the next question Haman asked was “If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them.”
Today, when we hear chants in Tehran of “destroy Israel”, it doesn’t end there.Israel rightly takes Iran at its word, and so should the West!
Iran’s development of rockets that can reach into Israel and their equipping of Hezbollah at Israel’s northern border along with Hamas and Islamic Jihad at Israel’s southern border are reasons why Israel takes this threat so seriously. They will not allow modern-day “Hamans” to achieve their evil goals.
Haman’s hatred for Jews was deeply rooted. He was a descendent of Agag, who was the king of the Amalekites, a people who were Israel’s enemy for generations. The hatred against Israel and the Jewish people is also deeply rooted, which is why standing against anti-Semitism here in the UK is so important. And if we are to stand against anti-Semitism effectively, we must stand with the Jewish state, Israel.
For such a time
That is why CUFI has launched Operation Mordecai, a new campaign that confronts the threat from Iran to Israel and the West.
The name is inspired by Queen Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, who persuaded Esther to go before King Ahasuerus in order to save the Jews.
Two things took place before Mordecai decided to warn Esther. Firstly, Mordecai discerned the threat to be real and was deeply troubled after overhearing the plot to wipe out the Jews. Secondly, he responded to this threat by humbly coming before the Lord.
Mordecai then took action by warning Esther, knowing the important role she would need to take, risking her own life to save the Jewish people.
It was Mordecai who told Esther:
“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”(Esther 4:14)
Like, Mordecai, CUFI has heeded the warning from Iran; we have sought the Lord and have decided to take action.
Will you join us?
Britain must decide
Our prayer is that Britain will be on the right side of history and defend Israel against the threat of the Iranian regime. We cannot allow Britain to stay silent or support the ploys by the anti-Semitic Iranian regime.
God is watching over Israel, but history will testify where Britain positions itself in the days ahead. We firmly believe Britain has a role in aligning with Israel on this issue, and as Christians who love Israel, we are taking action without delay.
Through Operation Mordecai, we are highlighting Iran’s very real threat to Israel, the plight of the oppressed Iranian people and Iran’s damaging influence here in the UK.
In recent weeks we have seen a tremendous success with the Iran-backed terrorist organisation, Hezbollah, being banned in full in the UK. Over 20,000 people signed CUFI’s petition and thousands more wrote to the Government, ensuring that support for this terror group is now outlawed in Britain.
Now is the time to go even further and confront the wider threat from Iran, but we need your help as we plan further actions.
For CUFI to be a stronger voice in the UK and make an even greater impact we need your help.
Please consider making a one-time donation or take your support further and become a member of CUFI with a monthly gift to support this vital work. Despite our limited resources, your support really does make a difference as we fight these battles in faith.
Together, we are called to defend Israel and the Jewish people and we thank you for standing with us for such a time as this.
