Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that he “strongly condemns the Turkish invasion of the Kurdish areas in Syria and warns against the ethnic cleansing of the Kurds by Turkey and its proxies.”

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu added that “Israel is prepared to extend humanitarian assistance to the gallant Kurdish people.”

Meanwhile over a hundred reserve Israel Defense Forces officers have signed on to a petition calling on the state to also provide military assistance to Kurdish fighters in northern Syria who are under attack by Turkey.The petition says, “We remember very well… what happens when the nations of the world abandon the fate of a people.”

“Israel is a country that has the means to help the Kurdish people, and now is the time do do so.”

“As Israelis and as Jews, we must not stand idly by,” the officers wrote.

Yesterday, Turkey launched airstrikes, fired artillery and began a ground offensive against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria after US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw forces from the region.
