Home Secretary Priti Patel met with leaders of the Jewish community, including members of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BOD), the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) and the Community Securities Trust (CST) this week, pledging to stand up to Jew-hate in Britain.

Patel, who took up her post last month, met senior representatives of the Board of Deputies, Jewish Leadership Council and Community Security Trust on Tuesday, the Jewish News reports.

“I was delighted to meet with the Board of Deputies of British Jews today. I look forward to working with them to stand up to the threat of antisemitism, and ensure the security and safety of Jewish communities,” Patel said.

In a joint statement, Jewish leaders said: “We very much look forward to working with her on our shared objectives of making the UK safer and more secure for Jews and every part of our society, particularly in the context of rising antisemitism and the uncertainties posed by Brexit.

“We were very pleased to hear of the Home Secretary’s strong commitment to tackling antisemitism and extremism and her willingness to work with us to eliminate the potential challenges posed by Brexit.”

Patel resigned as International Development Secretary in 2017 after it was revealed she had met with Israeli ministers and IDF commanders during a private visit to Israel – without informing the Foreign Office about the meetings.
