Christians United for Israel UK stands with Britain’s Jewish community following today’s abhorrent antisemitic terror attack in Golders Green, London. This violent attack, in which Jews were stabbed and chased through the streets in broad daylight, is nothing short of evil. We pray for the two Jewish victims and remain resolved to fight this virus of Jew-hatred that has gripped the nation. This is not just an attack on Jews, but on Britain and the values we share. As Christians, we must speak out.
This attack is not an isolated incident. Antisemitism in this country has gained a foothold and is now at crisis point. It can only be addressed by tackling it at its root.
Over the past few weeks, there have been five arson or attempted arson attacks targeting Jewish-owned properties in London. The first was the attack on Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green in March. In the space of one week in April, four Jewish-linked properties were attacked. A sixth arson attack occurred in the same borough on Monday, targeting a street memorial in honour of Iranian victims murdered by the regime. As we saw in German and Austrian cities in 1937, antisemites did not stop at the destruction of Jewish property; it quickly escalated into targeting Jews themselves. In Australia in 2024, a series of arson attacks on Jewish properties sought to instil fear in Australia’s Jewish community, before leading to the shocking massacre of Jews at Bondi during Hanukkah. The lesson is clear: we must not allow intimidation to fester.
Instead of consistently confronting acts of intimidation, Britain’s institutions have too often allowed Jews to be demonised, smeared, and scapegoated. For over two years, we have witnessed calls on Britain’s streets to globalise the intifada, meaning to globalise the murder of Jews. This has intensified at the same time as the Iranian regime has been allowed to remain active on British soil. On Monday, the Iranian embassy in London issued a social media appeal encouraging UK-based Iranians to register for a so-called “martyrdom” campaign linked to Tehran’s “Jan Fada” initiative. A similar request was issued in Australia. This is absolutely deplorable and should be unequivocally condemned. But this is the mentality of the Islamists in Tehran, and it is the mentality of many who subscribe to their ideology.
The Iranian ambassador has been summoned by the UK Foreign Office, but this is not enough. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps should finally be banned in the UK. It is the very least the British government can do.
Finally, we would like to express to members of the Jewish community how deeply grieved we are that you are going through this deplorable situation. You are not alone. Tens of thousands of CUFI supporters across this nation are standing with you and will not remain silent. We will continue to speak out until the evil of Jew-hatred is eradicated from the face of the earth.
