A teenager has been killed and over 20 people injured in a twin bomb blast at bus stops in Jerusalem. The UK has condemned the terror attacks with UK Ambassador to Israel saying that the UK stands with Israel against terrorism.

“I am shocked by the terrorist attacks this morning near Jerusalem, that killed one person and injured many others,” wrote Ambassador Neil Wigan, “Our deepest sympathies to those affected and their families and friends. The UK stands with Israel against terrorism.”

The victim of one of the blasts has been named as 16-year-old Aryeh Shtsupak, a yeshiva student from Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood. His friend is among several other people seriously wounded.

The first explosion occurred close to the main entrance of Jerusalem in Givat Shaul, shortly after 7 a.m., peak commuter hour. A second blast occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m., at Ramot junction, another entrance to Jerusalem.

Police suspected the explosions were caused by near-identical remotely detonated explosive devices left in bags. The devices were packed with nails to maximize casualties, the Kan public broadcaster reported.

Visiting the scene, Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai said there may have been two attackers. “This is a framework of attack that we haven’t seen for many years,” he  said.

James Cleverley, UK Foreign Minister, condemned the attacks in a tweet: “Horrific news coming out of Jerusalem this morning. At least 22 injured and a teenager murdered in two senseless bombing attacks. My thoughts are with all those affected. We must see an end to rising violence and instability in Israel and the OPTs.
