Israel’s national football team is making headlines at home for two strong performances against Scotland and Moldova in recent days, but co-existence between Jews and Arabs is also a cause for celebration.

After Israel’s victory against Moldova in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, the Sussex Friends of Israel group were quick to point out the diversity of the Israeli goalscorers. “Four different scorers for the Jewish state in their 1-4 win,” the group tweeted, “Manor Solomon, Israeli Jewish; Bibras Natkho, Israeli Circassian Muslim; Eran Zahavi, Israeli Jewish; Mu’nas Dabbur, Israeli Arab Muslim.”

Israel’s captain, Bibras Natkho, the first Circassin Muslim to captain the national side, plays his club football in Serbia for FK Partizan. Mu’nas Dabbur plays his club football for the German Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim. Manor Solomon plays for FC Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, whilst Eran Zahavi plays for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

But contrary to the divisive tactics of those who falsely accuse Israel of apartheid, they are all Israeli!
