Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed that additional budgets be allocated for the Israeli aid for Honduras and Guatemala in the wake of the damage done to the countries by recent hurricanes, his office announced Thursday.

Both countries have a good friendship with Israel and have recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Guatemala opened an Embassy in Jerusalem last year and Honduras vowed to open one shortly.

A joint Home Front Command and Foreign Ministry delegation travelled to the Republic of Honduras last week to help the country following the devastation left behind by hurricanes Eta and Iota.

The delegation has been on the ground for three days assisting cities suffering from hurricane damage and providing guidance to local leadership.

Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his pride in this Israeli team working in Honduras when he tweeted:

“I’m proud of the Israeli humanitarian delegation that is working around the clock in Honduras, following hurricanes Eta and Iota.

“On behalf of Israel, I wish to send our regards to the people of Honduras and President Juan Orlando.”

He later shared that he was “moved to tears” by a video of the Israeli team leaving a village in Honduras and being applauded by the residents who had received assistance.

“Moved to tears,” the Prime Minister said. “Residents of Honduras say goodbye to the Israeli humanitarian delegation. We have friends in Honduras!”
