Nottingham Trent University has suspended a student after he posted a photo on Tinder of himself posing next to a sleeping Charedi man with a sticker of a Palestinian flag covering his mouth.

Screenshots of the image were posted on social media, sparking concern and shock from online users. Socialists Against AntiSemitism said, “The person on the right treats a human being like a zoo animal”.

The student is only identified as Jonathan, 20, and the incident is alleged to have happened on the Piccadilly line.

The university was quick to respond, tweeting: “We have been made aware of a post on social media, in which NTU is mentioned in an individual’s personal profile.

“We are proud of our diverse and inclusive community and do not tolerate any form of hate crime, including antisemitism. An urgent investigation is already underway regarding this matter.”

Nottingham Trent University has suspended the first-year student has been suspended and a panel is to convene to determine disciplinary action.

According to the Jewish News, Siwan Hayward, TFL’s director of compliance and policing, said: “Hate crime is illegal and we do not tolerate it on our network.

“We want public transport to feel safe and welcoming for everyone and urge anyone who has more information about this abhorrent incident to contact the BTP and make an official report, so the perpetrators can be identified.”
