“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day.”
Psalm 91:5

There are currently many ‘arrows’ flying. Israel is at war, and there are many people in the world who are fearing for their safety and the future.

As Christians, we have an amazing assurance that the God of Israel is watching over His people. No matter what Israel is facing, no matter what our nation and the world are facing, and no matter what we ourselves are facing in our personal lives, we can always be assured that God is our refuge.

This week, we are praying Psalm 91 over a number of topics.

Pray for Israel: As always, we continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Israel is in danger, but at the same time, God is on His throne and is defending His nation. While attacks against Israel are increasing, so too are the smears on the global media channels, and the hatred towards Israel online. Satan’s deception is strong on this earth, and Israel and the Jewish people are the main victims of the hate being stirred up. Continue to pray for the Jewish people.

Pray for US/Israeli Forces: We thank God for President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu and the courage of the IDF and US military to face down the threat of the Iranian regime. We pray that God will give wisdom to the military leaders, that they will have success on the battlefield, and that victory will be accomplished quickly.

Pray for the Iranian people: Iranians have long been the victims of a brutal regime, and now they are suffering at war. There have been casualties, including the horrific incident with the girls’ school being struck, and over 100 children being killed. Likewise, the regime is cracking down on protesters even more strongly, with the regime putting out threats that even if someone “makes a sound” in support of Israel/US or against the regime, they will be shot dead on the spot. The Iranian people deserve their freedom, and we pray that they will soon have it.

Pray for Britain: We need to pray for Sir Keir Starmer and the UK government. At CUFI, we have been repeatedly disappointed with the actions taken by the government in recent months, from recognising a Palestinian state to refusing to outlaw the IRGC. There are many things we can criticise. We do not expect the UK government to get involved in this war, but we also don’t expect Britain to tie the hands of our allies as they go to war against an evil dictatorship. Sadly, this is exactly what happened when the UK blocked the US from using the American bases located on British territory. Pray for moral clarity for the Prime Minister.

Pray for CUFI: As mentioned earlier, hatred against Israel is increasing globally, and CUFI is at the forefront, receiving hate and threats continually. Our social media posts that highlighted Jewish children being killed in Israel were overloaded with laughing emojis and vile messages against these precious children. This is happening more regularly to our accounts as antisemites are being empowered. Please pray for wisdom for our team, renewed energy as we continue this noble work, and for protection over our team against threats.

Finally, let’s read Psalm 91 and declare it over all these things, and over our own lives.

Psalm 91:

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”
