“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,
Who rides the heavens to help you,
And in His excellency on the clouds.
The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
And will say, ‘Destroy!’
Then Israel shall dwell in safety,
The fountain of Jacob alone,
In a land of grain and new wine;
His heavens shall also drop dew.
Happy are you, O Israel!
Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,
The shield of your help
And the sword of your majesty!
Your enemies shall submit to you,
And you shall tread down their high places.”
Deuteronomy 33:26-29

May this be the meditation of our heart and the battle-cry on our lips as we pray for Israel and the Jewish people today. Take note of the depth of truth in this passage:

There is no God like the God of Jeshurun. The name Jeshurun means “upright one” or “blessed one” and is used by God as an affectionate term for Israel. He promises to help His people, to be a refuge and a covering that is everlasting. He promises to “thrust out” the enemy with the commanding word “Destroy”. The battle for Israel’s survival is a battle between good and evil. Israel’s survival is guaranteed, but it is only guaranteed because the God of Israel will destroy Israel’s enemies. Safety, provision and fruitfulness are promised for Israel to enjoy. And by the shield and the sword of the Lord, their enemies will “submit to Israel” and His people will “tread down” their high places.

“High places” – this is very significant. High places symbolise every authority that seeks dominion over Israel. Every power and principality that seeks to destroy Israel and the Jewish people, and thwart God’s purposes. We can identify these ‘high places’ positioned in some governments, in the media, and in nations and regimes. Every high place set up against the nation of Israel will be trodden down and brought low in the deliverance of His people. This weekend the Iranian regime marks ‘Al Quds Day’ which is used to call for the destruction of Israel and ‘liberation of Jerusalem’. We pray with full authority, against the ‘high place’ erected in Tehran by the Iranian regime – that it will be brought down and removed, and that safety will be enjoyed by Israel and liberty will be released for the Iranian people. We pray against every high place set up by the Iranian regime proxies that surround Israel, that they too will be trodden down. We pray against the high places in the West, set up by the Iranian regime to undermine the West and threaten the Jewish people’s security. This season it is critical to pray for the Jewish people’s protection – we pray against every antisemitic high place that seeks to spread fear and harm to Jews. We pray against every lying tongue in the media establishing high places of influence that seek to spread lies against Israel and the Jewish people.

To this and every other high place that seeks to undermine, delegitimise, mock, intimidate and destroy Israel and the Jewish people….

….we declare: “Be thrust out!” “Be trodden down”

AMEN.
