The Iranian regime is evil. For some online commentators, Iran’s brutality is not clearly understood. Declaring to wipe out the Jewish state, and developing the means to try it, is simply not enough for them to accept. We look at three important areas that highlight Iran’s brutality beyond the immediate threat to Israel: The regime’s threat to the US and Britain; Iran’s violations of international law, and their oppressive laws imposed on the suffering Iranian people.
THREAT TO THE WEST
Iran is a threat to the UK
Twenty would-be terrorist attacks by the IRGC on British soil were foiled since 2022, according to MI5. These plots have primarily targeted Jewish and Israeli targets, Iranian dissidents, journalists, and critics of the Iranian regime. Earlier this year, Iranian nationals were arrested over alleged surveillance of Jewish sites in London. In 2023, there was a plot to kidnap or kill journalists working for a London-based Persian-language channel. Two open-source foiled bombings have been revealed in recent times – last year Iranians were among those arrested for planning to attack the Israeli embassy in London. In 2018, the Iranian regime was directly involved in a foiled bombing of an Iranian freedom rally in Paris attended by British MPs. The Iranian regime has also cited “Zionists” as their targets.
Threat to the United States
America is not fighting “Israel’s war” as some political commentators like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens have claimed. The regime’s evil is simply not rhetoric. For more than 40 years, the regime has targeted Americans throughout the world. These have included assassination plots and foiled bombings.
Cyber and Homeland Security Threats
US homeland security warnings state that Iranian cyber actors and regime-aligned groups may conduct attacks against US networks and institutions.
IRAN IS BREAKING INTERNATIONAL LAW
Targeting civilians
There is a clear difference between America and Israel’s strategy and that of the Iranian regime’s. Iran is deliberately targeting civilians as opposed to only targeting military targets. It also has no concern for the Iranian people who are deliberately put in harms way.
Use of Cluster Bombs
According to the IDF, Iran has launched cluster-munition missiles towards Israeli population centres. When the missile breaks apart in the air, dozens of smaller explosives called submunitions spread across large areas, putting civilians directly in harm’s way. They were designed for open battlefields, but firing them toward cities full of families is reckless and immoral. Each missile can release dozens of bomblets that fall randomly across streets, homes and public spaces. Many also fail to explode on impact, leaving lethal explosives behind that can kill civilians later.
IRAN’S LAW IS BRUTAL
Child Marriage is Legal
Girls can be married at 13 and even as young as 9 with judge’s approval. The law destroys childhood, freedom, and futures.
Compulsory Hijab & “Chastity Police”
Women and girls are legally forced to follow strict dress codes. Violations mean arrest, beating, imprisonment, and now AI-powered street surveillance. This is state-mandated control over women’s bodies.
Criminalising Protest & Assembly
Peaceful demonstrations are viewed as a “threat to national security.” Protesters are met with live fire, mass arrests, and death sentences. In Iran, freedom itself is outlawed.
Torture-based “confessions”
Iran’s courts openly accept confessions extracted under torture, including by beatings, electric shocks, and sleep deprivation. Justice in Iran is built on fear, not truth.
“Moharebeh” & “Corruption on Earth” Death Sentences
These vague religious-political charges allow the regime to execute protesters, minorities and dissidents after sham trials. This is a tool to silence anyone demanding freedom.
Blasphemy & “Insulting the Supreme Leader”
Speech that the regime dislikes becomes a crime. Penalties range from years in prison to execution. Words alone can get you killed.
Executing Children
Iran is one of the only countries on earth still executing people for crimes committed before age 18. This is a direct violation of international law.
Christian Persecution
Christian converts are treated as criminals. House churches are raided, Bibles confiscated, believers imprisoned for “evangelism” or “acting against national security”. Following Jesus is considered a threat to the state.
