Before President Trump meets with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas next week, he should read the latest report from the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education. It speaks volumes about the kind of society the Palestinians are creating and the kind of state they would create.
Consider these excerpts from the report’s executive summary:
“The new Palestinian curriculum, which includes new textbooks for grades 1–4, is significantly more radical than previous curricula. To an even greater extent than the 2014–15 textbooks, the curriculum teaches students to be martyrs, demonizes and denies the existence of Israel. . .
“Within the pages of the textbooks children are taught to be expendable. Messages such as. . . ‘I shall sacrifice my blood to saturate the land’ suffuse the curriculum. Math books use numbers of dead martyrs to teach arithmetic. The vision of an Arab Palestine includes the entirety of what is now Israel. . .
“This research also revisits textbooks from grades 11–12 to reassess the Palestinian worldview as conveyed to older students. The texts for this age group commemorate the PLO’s armed struggle. . . The strategy of violence and pressure (in place of negotiations) is advocated as the most effective action to achieve Palestinian goals. . .
“Within the higher-grade textbooks, there remain an absolute lack of empathy for the ‘Other,’ nor any comprehension or explanation of the root causes of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. Thus the hatred of Israel persists.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently denounced the hatred that Palestinians are teaching their children. The simple reality is that no matter how much we may desire peace between Israelis and Palestinians, the Palestinians clearly do not want either a piece of Israel or peace with Israel.
As their textbooks testify, they want to destroy the state of Israel and create a “Palestine” in its place.
It is not in the interests of the United States to create another failed radical Islamic state in the Middle East. It certainly is not in Israel’s interest either to create “Hamastan.” Gaza cannot be the model.
The Ayatollah Says. . .
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei yesterday said the following:
“The formation of terrorist groups in the name of Islam and sowing discord in such Muslim countries as Iraq, Syria, Bahrain and Yemen are some of the plots of the oppressive U.S. [government] and the evil Zionist regime aimed at countering Islam.”
So the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism, the patron of Hezbollah and Hamas, the man who chants “Death to Israel, Death to America,” who calls America “the Great Satan,” says that ISIS and the chaos Iran is creating in Bahrain and Yemen is all our doing. Perhaps we should call Khamenei Iran’s Supreme Liar.
And the previous administration thought it could do business with this guy!
