This Purim, CUFI calls upon Christians across the United Kingdom to pray for the liberty of the Iranian people, for the protection of all those serving in the United States and Israeli armed forces, and for the victory of good over evil.

Purim, which began Monday evening until tonight, reminds us that God’s covenant with Israel is unshakable. In the Book of Esther, a genocidal decree threatened the Jewish people, but God worked through courageous individuals to expose evil, protect His people, and preserve His promises.

For Christians, Purim isn’t just history. It’s a call to recognise the reality of antisemitism, to stand with the Jewish people, and to choose courage when truth is under attack. We must not remain silent.

On Saturday, a modern day ‘Haman’ was killed in a precision strike. Just seven months ago, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei repeated his usual rhetoric. He said, “Death to Israel and Death to America is not just a good slogan. It’s our policy.” This tyrant of Tehran, who since 1989 has brutally ruled Iran, oppressing his own people and vowing to destroy Israel, has met the consequences of cursing Israel, as God warned in Genesis 12:3.

A few days after Haman was put to death on the gallows intended for the Jewish people, King Ahasuerus issued legal permission for the Jews who were in every city “to gather together and protect their lives—to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them.” That was “the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.” This is the exact day for which Purim marks — it was the day that royal consent was given to turn around what was intended to annihilate the Jewish people and fight the enemies of Israel for their deliverance.

While the death of Ayatollah Khamenei is truly historic, the Iranian regime is still in power. The United States under President Trump has proven to be a loyal ally to Israel. The way is now paved for the toppling of the Iranian regime bringing freedom to the long-suffering Iranian people, and removing the greatest threat to both Israel and the West.

Britain stands at a crossroad. Our two closest allies, the US and Israel, are fighting against an evil regime that regularly calls for ‘Death to Britain’. The UK should stand fully with the US and Israel in this fight of good over evil. It should not be intimidated by voices of those who hate Israel and detest the Western values that we share.

We must pray for Israel’s protection. While the US and Israel only target terrorists and terror sites, the Iranian regime has no care or concern about innocent victims being killed. Tragically, nine people were killed, and more than 40 were injured when an Iranian missile destroyed a synagogue in Beit Shemesh and caused extensive damage to a public bomb shelter beneath it, as well as surrounding homes. We lift up their loved ones in prayer and pray for protection over all Israel that is dealing with a barrage of rockets from the regime in Iran.

We must pray for the Jewish community in Britain. Security levels were again raised for the Jewish community this weekend. Just as Esther used her position and voice to defend God’s people, Christians are called to stand with the Jewish people “for such a time as this” with the same moral clarity. Purim reminds us of our Biblical responsibility to stand with the Jewish people; it demands action, prayer and unwavering solidarity.

Seven years ago, CUFI UK launched Operation Mordecai, a strategic campaign highlighting Iran’s threat to Israel and the West. Today, we renew our commitment to stand with Israel and the Jewish people; we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the freedom of the Iranian people.
