Israel’s leaders and the British Jewish community have welcomed the new UK Prime Minister to her role after Liz Truss was elected to lead the Conservative Party.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid congratulated “my good friend and a great friend of Israel” Liz Truss.

“Our nations are allies united by our commitment to freedom and a shared vision for the future,” he said. “I look forward to continuing our work together to take that alliance to new heights.”

Israel’s Ambassador to the UK Tzipi Hotovely tweeted her congratulations the new new Prime Minister.

“You have always been a true friend of Israel and I look forward to working together in taking our strong bilateral partnership to new heights,” Hotovely said. Adding, “Behatzlacha! (Good luck!).”

Israel’s opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu also congratulated Truss.

“I am sure that under your leadership the deep friendship between Britain and Israel will be further strengthened in all fields,” Netanyahu tweeted.

The former prime minister also added his thanks to outgoing PM Boris Johnson “for his valued contributions to the excellent relations between our two countries.”

The Board of Deputies of British Jews, an umbrella group for the Jewish community in Britain, said, “We congratulate Liz Truss and wish her well in navigating the challenging circumstances facing our country.”

“The Board of Deputies looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with the British Government, advocating for our community at the highest levels.”

For our part, we at Christians United for Israel UK also welcome Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. We pray that she will lead our country in these trying times with wisdom and that she will prove herself to be a true friend of Israel.

At CUFI, we have launched a new campaign to urge the Prime Minister to move the UK Embassy to Jerusalem. We believe it is the right thing to do by correcting an historic injustice imposed by the British government.
