The world was woken up this week to the horrors of Hamas terrorism. We all became witnesses to what happens when hordes of Hamas terrorists gain access to Israeli civilians. The result is death and destruction unlike anything we have seen or could have imagined.

At Christians United for Israel, we have long been sounding the alarm about Hamas’s terrorism and their hatred against the Jews. Israel itself has been trying to warn the world what would happen if it did not defend itself.

Decades ago, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said, “If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel.”

We have seen this phrase dismissed by too many who would claim that Golda Meir was sensationalising the aims of Hamas. They told us that Hamas were ‘freedom fighters’ and that Hamas simply wanted to liberate their land. These people had convinced themselves that Hamas were the good guys and Israel was evil. They had distorted reality and turned truth into lies.

It’s strange because this week, for the first time since we began here at CUFI UK, we can turn on the news and everyone in the world is talking about what we have been talking about for years. People’s eyes have been opened.

For decades, Hamas has been wreaking havoc on Israel. Suicide bombings, car rammings, stabbing and shooting attacks against civilians, and tens-of-thousands of rockets being fired over the years at Israeli towns and cities. These acts of terror have been carried out hundreds of times against Israel. Every single time we would tell the world that Hamas was evil. That these attacks were just a taster of what Hamas’s true intentions were.

It should not have taken such a catastrophic event, where over 1,300 Israelis were massacred by Hamas for the world to wake up. But it seems, at least for the moment, it finally has opened its eyes to the truth.

The UK is one such nation to come out strongly in support of Israel at this time. The UK Prime Minister has vowed to support Israel. The Foreign Minister has visited Israel and reemphasises Britain’s support, and even had to run for shelter when Hamas rockets were fired towards his location. Even the Royal Family has condemned Hamas and the Royal Navy is on route to Israel.

The UK’s Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said, “The monstrous terrorist attacks committed by Hamas in recent days have proven why the UK must support Israel’s absolute right to self-defence and deter malign external interference. No nation should stand alone in the face of such evil and today’s deployment will ensure Israel does not.”

Israel has been fighting this war alone for too long. It is a war that Israel does not want to fight, but it must fight, because if Israel stops fighting, Israel will not exist. Hamas has proven this fact.

This year, we want to do more to bless Israel and the Jewish people.

We know that as we bless Israel this year, God will bless us, just as He promised in Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Now is the time to bless Israel and the Jewish people.
