We are excited by reports that the Hungarian government will likely move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in the next few weeks.
The news broke on Friday morning when Israeli news outlets who said that discussions had been made over the last few days between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban.
The two countries Foreign Ministers, Israel’s Eli Cohen and Hungary’s Peter Szijjarto were also said to be in contact also.
Jerusalem and Budapest have enjoyed increasingly strong ties in the last few years, including support for Israel at the United Nations. Hungary is one of the few countries that stand up for Israel by voting against anti-Israel resolutions.
The move follows a 2019 agreement when Hungary opened a diplomatic trade mission in Jerusalem, the first European country to do so. This move was strongly opposed by the European Union, but Orban went ahead with it regardless.
At CUFI, we are looking forward to seeing another nation open its embassy in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel. It was given to them by God Almighty as written in the Bible and is the city God chose to place His name. We believe every nation should give recognition to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. It is a move that honours God and the Jewish people.
This year, we want to do more to bless Israel and the Jewish people.
We know that as we bless Israel this year, God will bless us, just as He promised in Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Now is the time to bless Israel and the Jewish people.
We call upon the UK Government to officially recognise Jerusalem is Israel's capital and move its embassy to Jerusalem.
