The Watchmen Saw It Coming
CUFI is honoured to be connected with tens-of-thousands of Christians who have a mandate from God to be ‘Watchmen on the Walls’ for Israel.
Together, we are diligently watching over Israel, praying for her, warning the Church, and proclaiming Biblical truth in Britain.
It is important that we have our eyes open to the happenings of the enemy so we are not taken by surprise. To say “we saw it coming” is the testimony of a faithful watchman.
While we are sad to see what is happening, regarding the UK-Israel relationship, we are not surprised. Thanks to God’s Word and His Spirit helping us to discern the times we live in, CUFI has often been ahead of the curve in forewarning the Church.
CUFI UK has been speaking for many years about the likelihood of the UK government recognising a Palestinian state. Our first big campaign, back in 2017, came in the form of calling for the UK government to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The UK government has, for decades, presented itself as neutral in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. We were calling out our government because far from being neutral, even back then they were favouring the Palestinian false claim to Jerusalem, while denying Israel’s right to Jerusalem.
You see, even to this day, the UK representative to Israel is based in Tel Aviv, but the UK representative to the Palestinians is based in Jerusalem.
We said back in 2017: “The UK government is indulging the Palestinian’s claim to Jerusalem whilst actively disregarding Israel’s right to Jerusalem… Britain is complicit with those that seek to delegitimise the existence of the Jewish state and deny the Jewish connection to Jerusalem.”
In 2019, when Labour was in opposition, we rallied against Jeremy Corbyn’s plans to “immediately recognise a Palestinian state”. We warned that Labour’s actions would “undermine the peace process… reward Palestinian violence against Israeli civilians… undermine Israel’s sovereignty,” and most importantly, we warned “it would place the United Kingdom in direct opposition to the Word of God.”
These are not new phrases that CUFI coined, but at that time we felt like a lone voice amongst pro-Israel organisations in the UK. Sadly, many who stand with Israel are also positive towards a two-state solution, because they do not have a Biblical conviction against dividing the land.
In 2024, Keir Starmer became the new leader of the Labour Party, we were wary to say the least. Starmer had previously pledged his support to Jeremy Corbyn’s policies and was part of his Shadow Cabinet. Starmer re-branded Labour to appear less extreme in its views, but in reality it was a fresh coat of paint on a party whose anti-Israel attitudes are deeply rooted.
When Keir Starmer announced his updated Labour manifesto, the wording around the Palestinian state changed. They removed the word “immediate” and instead added the word “inalienable”. This meant that the recognition of a Palestinian state was no longer an immediate risk, but it was a certain one. We warned before the General Election that Starmer’s stance on Palestinian recognition was “even worse than Corbyn’s”, because now Labour was saying that Palestinians had such a claim over the land, that a Palestinian state was the “inalienable right of the Palestinian people”. This means their claim to the land was both absolute and unable to be taken away.
That terminology is what we would use to speak of Israel’s claim to the land of Israel. In fact, Israel is the only nation on earth with an “inalienable right” to their land. Why? Because God owns that land, and He gave it to the Jewish people, as decreed in the Bible, to be theirs forever. In God’s view it is non-negotiable.
The change in Labour’s terminology showed that their support for the Palestinians was no longer a political view but part of an ideology. The same people who protest vehemently against Israel’s existence and claim that “no state has the right to exist”, are the same ones supporting Labour’s claim that the Palestinians have an “inalienable right” to a state.
These people have been duped into denying only one indigenous group to their homeland: The Jews.
They are willing to change the rules, to shift their beliefs, because they are working to the same aim as the enemies of Israel’s past:
“With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish, saying,‘Come,’ they say, ‘let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.’ For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You.” (Psalm 83:4)
This 3,000 year old Psalm is just as relevant today as it was when it was first written.
Whether it is the enemies plans to wipe out Israel militarily, the deceptiveness of the media to turn hearts against Israel, the hatred on the streets spreading fear so others won’t speak out, or the scheming of politicians to lead their nations down a dark path. All of these actions are being used and directed by Satan in his plans to wipe out Israel.
Right now, the UK government is on the cusp of recognising a Palestinian state. Once again, CUFI is one of the few voices railing against the ungodly plans of the British government. The Church is largely silent, and polling suggests that the majority of Christians in the UK support the two-state solution. Christians are under a heavy delusion.
Thankfully, our supporters are not blinded. The faithful watchmen saw Britain’s betrayal coming. We are saddened by what is happening, but we are not surprised.
Despite these troubling times we are not without hope for the UK. There is always hope when God is involved. We believe that Britain can change course. It may not be immediate, we may have to go through rough times before we see an improvement, but we have to have hope. Britain’s heritage includes helping to spread the Gospel to the nations, it includes standing up to evil, such as Hitler and his Nazis, it includes liberating the Holy Land from Ottoman rule and paving the way for the rebirth of the state of Israel.
The UK has been used by God in the past to do great things. We believe that it can be used again. But in order for that to happen, the Church must arise. We must stand up for Biblical truth.
Thank you for standing with CUFI.
We are not going anywhere.
We will always stand up for Israel in the UK, and shine a light in the darkness.
We cannot do it alone, and we are so grateful for every person who prays for this ministry and faithfully sows into our work.
It was God Himself who declared: “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet, Until her righteousness goes forth like brightness, And her salvation like a torch that is burning. The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory…”
Israel’s future is secure. The UK, on the other hand, has to decide which path it will take. CUFI is not keeping silent, for Zion’s sake… and for Britain’s sake.
