It has been another eventful week and something we didn’t expect to happen was the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. We have had our fair share to say about Welby’s positions on Israel.
It is becoming more apparent that if someone has a wrong theology on Israel it can lead them astray in many other areas also. We saw this happening in Welby’s ministry, and whilst it wasn’t his stand on Israel that brought him down in the end, we still believe this was a judgement based on his compromise on biblical truth and his failure to stand with Israel. It got to the point where he put out a statement praying to God that the nations would divide the land of Israel, which is deeply troubling.
God did not call us to pray that Israel will be divided, instead, God told us to: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you.'” – Psalm 122:6
This is why we are praying this week for those in authority over us, that they will stand with Israel:
- Pray for the Church of England, that the new Archbishop of Canterbury will be a Godly leader who does not give in to compromise but challenges the evil of this world. Pray the Church in Britain will influence government and shape the public narrative in a positive way that brings our country back to God.
- Pray for former Archbishop Justin Welby. Pray that he will repent and that God will guide him back to the truth.
- Pray for the Jewish community in the UK and throughout Europe. Many are still feeling frightened following the events in Amsterdam and growing antisemitism related to that. Especially hold Jews in London in your prayers following incidents that take place
- Pray for the new appointments that President Trump is making for his upcoming administration. There are some encouraging picks he has made already of Christians who stand with Israel. We pray they will guide the US-Israel relationship to greater heights.
