CUFI joined over 150 supporters of Israel today opposite Downing Street as Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahu and Theresa May met at Number 10.
Christian, Jewish and secular groups united for the rally, organised by the Zionist Federation, to give Mr Netanyahu a warm welcome to the UK and counter the larger crowd of anti-Israel protests that also gathered.

Whilst the demonstration was conducted peacefully, chants of “from the river to the sea” – seen by Israeli supporters as a call for the Jewish state’s destruction – were met with the singing of ‘Am Yisrael Chai’ – the nation of Israel lives.

As Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived at number 10 around 300 anti-Israel protesters had gathered. There was no sign of any Hezbollah flags as there were when Netanyahu last visited Number 10 two years ago. But one demonstrator carried a banner branding Netanyahu a “Nazi murderer’. Noticeably, the singing of the national anthem of Great Britain by pro-Israel supporters was met with loud boos from the anti-Israel demonstrators.

However, the sound of Hatikvah overcame the voices of hate to give the Israeli PM a warm welcome and display support for the strengthening of UK and Israel relations.
