On Sunday, 25th September, the Jewish people will begin celebrating the “High Holy Days” for 2022. This is a special time for the Jewish people with much of their celebrations taking place with Jerusalem as a focal point.

Shamefully, the Hamas terrorist organisation has called for attacks against Jews in Jerusalem during this time and we need to pray that their plans come to nothing.

Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior member of the Gaza-ruling Hamas, warned, “The continuation of the Zionist aggression and their brutality against Jerusalem and the holy shrines will be the cause of a major battle.”

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and a central point of the Jewish faith, as well as Christianity. The Bible is clear that the Temple Mount is the place God chose for Jews to worship him, but today Jewish people are rarely allowed to visit the site and they are forbidden from praying there.

Instead of a Temple to God, there are now a series of mosques on the Temple Mount and only the worship of Allah is permitted on the Jewish people’s most holy site.

It is an insult to the Jewish people, but far more gravely, it is an insult to God.

In reaction to this, some Jews have taken to praying on the Temple Mount despite restrictions. And it is this simple act of peaceful worship that has provoked the Islamists to incite violence and bloodshed.

Hamas leaders claim that Jewish prayer is a “blatant attack on the religious and Islamic status of the city and the mosque,” al-Zahar said, adding that Israel bore full responsibility for “the possibility of dragging the entire region into an open religious war.”

He also said the Islamist terror group “defends the rights and sanctities of our people by all possible means.”

It is utterly demonic for an Islamist terrorist to spread blood libels against Jews and call for their murder simply for praying to God on their holiest site. It is even more even to then blame the victims, the Jews, for any bloodshed that occurs against them.

Thankfully, the world is more awake than ever to the fact Hamas is a terrorist group and should not be trusted. Their religious extremism is not far different from that of ISIS and Al-Qaeda, this helps to understand the beliefs in which they operate so we can better pray for Israel.

God is the defender of Israel and the Jewish people. He gave them the land of Israel and their capital Jerusalem. More than that, God placed His name in Jerusalem and chose it as the place where He would be glorified and where His people will fulfil His plans and purposes. The Jewish people living in Israel today are an example of Bible prophecy being fulfilled. We must never neglect our support for the things God loves, including Israel.

On the flip side, Satan hates the things God loves and he has corrupted the hearts and minds of men to hate Israel and the Jewish people. Hamas is operating in this realm, spreading hatred and seeking the destruction of Israel. They will not succeed.

  • Let’s pray that Hamas fails in its plans.
  • Let’s pray for the IDF and the Israeli police forces in Jerusalem.
  • Let’s pray for the Jewish people, that they will not fear but will worship God freely through Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot in Jerusalem just as God intended.
  • Let’s pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
