Every New Year we set about making resolutions and rebooting good habits in an attempt to improve ourselves and set us up for a good year. However, when it comes to anti-Israel hatred, we were reminded this year that ‘there is nothing new under the sun’ (Ecclesiastes 1:9) and the antisemitic hatred against the Jewish people continues to follow them every year.
Hamas rang in the New Year for 2025 in the same way they did in 2024, by firing rockets from Gaza into Israel. We are constantly being told that Gaza has no resources by disingenuous voices, however, Hamas clearly still has a few rockets lying around and is only too willing to try and kill Jews with them. We would gather that if Hamas could, they’d make a resolution that 2025 would be the year they fired more rockets into Israel than ever before, but the IDF has seen to it that the terrorist threat in Gaza is severely hampered, although not entirely neutralised.
Thankfully, the rockets fired into Israel on the New Year caused no injuries. Iron Dome shot one of the rockets out of the sky while the other landed in an open field. There is no doubt the intent of Hamas remains the same and the Israeli military continues its attempts to crush the Hamas terror threat and bring back the Israeli hostages who are still in captivity.
Another reminder that there is nothing new under the sun was that anti-Israel activists chose to mark the New Year with yet more antisemitic hatred and vitriol against Israel.
Several hundred anti-Israel demonstrators took over Times Square in New York chanting and getting rather angry in the name of ‘peace’.
Attendees chanted “Resistance is glorious — we will be victorious,” “We will honour all our martyrs,” and “Gaza, you make us proud.” They carried signs that said “Zionism is cancer,” “No war on Iran,” and “End all US aid to Israel.”
“There is only one solution — Intifada revolution,” they chanted, using a common refrain at anti-Israel rallies in the US. “Intifada,” Arabic for “uprising,” is associated with the Second Intifada, a period of terror attacks in Israel in the early 2000s marked by suicide bombings.
That’s not very peaceful and loving.
Speakers also urged attendees to recommit to anti-Israel activism in the new year. “2024 was a year of struggle against the crime of Zionism,” a speaker told the crowd. “We will be here every single year for generation after generation until total liberation and return.”
As we said before, this hatred against Israel is nothing new and the haters are devoted to continuing this hate-filled path. In the UK too, activist groups are vowing that 2025 will be a year of anti-Israel activism. Their aim is not to ‘free Gaza’ it is to crush Zionism. Their aim is to stop the God-given right of the Jewish people to live freely in their homeland.
Antisemitism is nothing new and hatred against the Jewish people goes back to the time of Exodus when the Israelis were forced to seek refuge in Egypt due to a famine. Years later, after Joseph had died, the Bible says a Pharaoh arose who did not remember Joseph and he started to persecute the Jews, leading to their enslavement. Pharaoh’s hatred of the Jews was driven by an antisemitic hatred.
It cost Pharaoh his kingdom’s prosperity, and ultimately his life, because his hatred of the Jews was stronger than his love for his own people. Much like how the Hamas leaders are willing to sacrifice their own people rather than make peace with Israel.
As the former Israeli Prime Minister said, “Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.”
Unfortunately, the enemies of Israel have not learned the lessons from this Biblical account.
Likewise, those seeking Israel’s destruction through ‘peaceful protest’ are also unwise to go against the promises of Almighty God. The Bible says God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel (Genesis 12:3). This statement has stood the test of time.
An encouragement that there is nothing new under the sun is God’s faithfulness to His people. Israel and the Jewish people have repeatedly defied the odds because God’s hand of blessing is upon them.
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.”
