Online retailer Amazon has apologised to a Jewish woman in London after she received a handwritten note with her parcel, which read: “Greetings from Uncle Adolf”
The woman, who is in her 30s, received the note with a toy she had ordered from her niece on 22 December and reported it immediately, with friends saying she was so upset she was physically shaking.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to reports of an offence of malicious communications and that the incident was being treated as a “hate crime”.
Amazon have since apologised to the woman and confirmed that the employee in question has been dismissed, stating: “We take this incident seriously”.
The unnamed employee is thought to have targeted the employee because of her Jewish sounding surname.
