Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, and heir of cosmetics brand Estee Lauder, gave an impassioned speech at the Aushwitz80 commemoration. Foreign heads of state, including King Charles, heard a message that drew comparisons between what took place at the Holocaust and what Israel and the Jewish people are facing today.
“It’s hard for us to believe what we see today. The sudden violence of hatred against Jews; the singling out of the one Jewish state. With huge demonstrations shouting antisemitic slogans everywhere. This is hard for us to watch, for any of us to watch. But I cannot imagine what it must be like for the almost 50 survivors here who are with us today…”
“These attacks are not just targeting Jews. They are attacking Judeo-Christian beliefs, which is the bedrock of western civilisation. When we hear the chants like globalise intifada or death to Israel, what they are really saying is death to the Western civilisation. That canary died 15 months ago on October 7th and that is the most consequential wanring for the entire world.”
