Protesters are planning to stage a protest at Southampton Football Club’s European clash with Israel’s Hapoel Be’er Sheva tonight, CUFI can reveal.
Anti-Israel activists plan to target the Israeli side’s bus as it arrives at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva was subject to hostile protests during their visit to Scotland earlier this season when hundreds of Celtic fans held Palestinian flags at the start of the match, defying orders from the Scottish Football Association and UEFA.
A number of groups are involved in organising the protest tonight, including Saints Against Apartheid which is ironically branding the event as “Be’er Sheva not welcome in Britain”.
CUFI has contacted Southampton F.C. regarding the matter and the club has confirmed to us that all is being done to ensure the safety of the team.
