At CUFI, we stand in solidarity with the Jewish community

Christians United for Israel UK strongly condemns the string of antisemitic incidents that have occurred in recent days in north London. Such incidents receive minimal national media attention, yet are indicative of a rising trend of antisemitism targeting the UK Jewish community.

On the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, two Orthodox Jewish men were physically attacked when leaving their shop in Stamford Hill, with both men requiring hospital treatment. Then on Saturday a rented open-top bus entered Stamford Hill blaring an offensive anti-Jewish slogan as Jews were leaving synagogue on Shabbat. The same day saw the windows of Jewish homes smashed in the same vicinity. And on Sunday a five-year-old Jewish boy was spat in the face whilst playing in a park. We support thorough investigations into these incidents that all happened within a square mile in less than a week.

Jews should be able to live safely and securely in London and anywhere in the United Kingdom without fear of attack or intimidation. Lessons must be learned from the summer of 2021, when there were unacceptable scenes of intimidation, including when a convoy of cars drove through Jewish neighbourhoods in London, broadcasting vile antisemitic hate speech. According to Home Office figures, there are three hate crimes against Jews every day in England and Wales, and Jews are four times more likely to be targeted than any other faith group.

At CUFI, we stand in solidarity with the Jewish community. Antisemitism is a cancer that must be eradicated. We urge local and national government to hear those within the community that have recently highlighted concerns over levels of security, and we call for authorities to take all antisemitic incidents seriously and prosecute appropriately. A culture of antisemitism has no place in Britain and must not be allowed to fester.
