The nation of Israel has been blessed by an abundance of rain in recent months and the result of the increased rainfall is that the Sea of Galilee has been filled up for the first time in decades.

The Sea of Galilee, known as the Kinneret in Hebrew, is Israel’s largest freshwater lake and was looking rather parched these last few years dropping to dangerously low water levels, but regular rainfall in the region has meant the water level was rising throughout 2019. Last week it was reported that the Sea of Galilee was at its highest point in 16 years, and now the Israeli Water Authority is looking to open up a dam in order to release water from the lake, which will be the first time this has happened in decades.

The Israel Water Authority reported that the water level has been rising at a rate of 2.5 cm per day and it rose by about a foot between March 23 and April 14.

It has now reached the “Upper Red Line”, of 208.8 meters.

Showers are forecast for this coming weekend, meaning the dams are likely to be opened very soon.

This is wonderful news as Israel is a very arid country and we learn from the Bible that rain upon the land is a sign of God’s blessing. It is therefore wonderful to see Israel being blessed with rain, especially in these times.

Despite the good news, the water authorities Giora Shaham explained, “The last two years were good, but expected dry periods are forecast for our region and we must prepare for it.”

Let’s pray the rain continues to fall upon the land of Israel and that the Sea of Galilee remains filled to overflowing.
