The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a surprise address outside Number 10 this evening – a move that is usually reserved for major announcements. The decision indicates the seriousness of the problem facing Britain right now. “We must be prepared to stand up for our shared values in all circumstances, no matter how difficult,” he said. “The time has now come for us all to stand together to combat the forces of division and beat this poison.” His speech was in response to what he described as a “shocking increase” in extremism in recent months. He also called George Galloway’s victory in the Rochdale by-election “beyond alarming”. In comes in a week where the Prime Minister announced a £31m package aimed at protecting MPs, stating it was in response to the impact of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, and also a £72m package to tackle the “utterly sickening” rise in antisemitism.
Christians in Britain must unite in prayer. Pray for the Jewish community – for their protection and safety. Pray against the spiritual forces at work that are behind the rise in antisemitism and are undermining the Judeo-Christian values of this country. Pray for the safety of MPs. Despite the intimidation, pray that more leaders will have the courage to speak out in defence of Israel.
And let us not forget to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray for the release of the hostages and that Hamas will surrender or be defeated. Pray for the IDF and for Israel’s leaders.
Psalm 44:4-8:
You are my King, O God;
Command victories for Jacob.
Through You we will push down our enemies;
Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.
For I will not trust in my bow,
Nor shall my sword save me.
But You have saved us from our enemies,
And have put to shame those who hated us.
In God we boast all day long,
And praise Your name forever. Selah
Thank you for praying with us for Israel today.
