“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”
(Psalm 33:12)

This verse is both a declaration and a warning.

For Israel, this blessing is unconditional, and it reaffirms God’s covenant and the enduring relationship He has with His people. Israel was uniquely chosen by God and He entered into covenant with the Jewish people through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Israel is blessed because God has chosen them for His own inheritance.

For nations like the UK, this blessing is conditional and serves as a call to return to God. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Christian nations put God as the Lord of their nation. Sadly, the UK is far from that today, but there is still hope that the UK can once again make God Lord over public life, government policy, and within our culture. The spiritual health of Britain begins not with politics, but with hearts turned towards God.

We need our nation to turn back to God. For all of our sakes. Both Christians and Jews are suffering the consequences of ungodly leadership.

With this in mind, let’s pray:

Pray for the Jewish community: A new report shows that a majority of Jews believe the UK government’s actions have made them less safe in the UK. This is shameful. Governments are supposed to protect their citizens. The UK government has failed British Jews, and it needs to make amends. Pray for protection over the Jewish community. Pray that government ministers and those in authority will act to ensure the safety of Britain’s Jews.

Pray for the UK-Israel relationship: We have long been saying the actions of our government are putting a strain on the UK-Israel relationship. Jews also feel that with the majority saying the UK is too critical of Israel. Christians and Jews must unite in prayer and action for our government. We want Britain to bless Israel, we want Britain to be blessed. Let’s pray that change happens in the halls of Westminster.

Pray for the Church: An ongoing prayer we have at CUFI is that the Church will once again be a driving force for change in our nation. We need strong Christian leaders to rise to the heights of parliament and to stand on Biblical truth. Standing with Israel is not a political issue, it’s a Bible issue: therefore, we should see support for Israel in every area of government. Pray that the Church will impact our nation and our politicians.

Pray against the threat of Iran in Britain: This week it has been reported that the Iranian regime is a direct threat to UK citizens, particularly the Jewish community and those supporting Israel. We must pray that the plans of the enemy are thwarted and that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. We must also pray for wisdom for our leaders to stand up to this threat and for our security forces who are doing their utmost to keep Britons safe.
