Israeli archaeological divers are working to catalogue and preserve ancient relics on the seabed off the coast of Israel where oil rigs are planned to be constructed.

In Israel, whenever building work is going to take place, the Israel Antiquities Authority has to be notified and whenever a building firm discovers a relic all work must stop until the authorities have checked the area. Sometimes building work can be delayed or even halted altogether if a rare archaeological site is discovered.

Interestingly, Israel is also carrying out this same work in the ocean, ensuring that relics of the past are not lost to the construction of a new oil field being built.
