Benjamin Netanyahu has achieved election victory in Israel and will return once more as Israel’s Prime Minister after his pro-Netanyahu bloc of parties secured enough votes to form a coalition government.
According to the final results, which still need to be certified in the coming days, Netanyahu and his allies captured 64 seats in Israel’s 120-seat parliament, or Knesset. His opponents in the current coalition, led by Yair Lapid, won 51 seats, with the remaining five held by a small unaffiliated Arab party. Voter turnout was 70.6%
Netanyahu’s Likud Party will receive 32 seats in the next Knesset, with his likely coalition partners the Religious Zionist Party, Shas and United Torah Judaism receiving 14, 11 and seven mandates, respectively.
Christians United for Israel UK is neutral in Israeli politics and just as we welcomed Yair Lapid as Prime Minister previously, and Naftali Bennett before him, we also welcome back Benjamin Netanyahu as the Prime Minister of Israel once again. We continue to support and pray for all of Israel’s leaders.
On Thursday evening Prime Minister Yair Lapid called Netanyahu to concede the race and congratulate him on his election victory.
“The State of Israel is above any political considerations,” Lapid said in a statement. “I wish Netanyahu good luck for the people of Israel and the State of Israel.”
Lapid’s office said the outgoing prime minister told Netanyahu he has instructed all branches of his office to prepare for an orderly transfer of power.
Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who previously served as Prime Minister before handing the reins to Lapid, also gave his intention to resign his position in the coming days and wished the new government luck.
“The government I led managed a national policy with deliberation and consent,” he said. “I hope the new government will act responsibly and with as broad a consent as possible in the public.”
Netanyahu celebrated his bloc’s victory and thanked his supporters for their “magnificent expression of faith.”
“I would like to thank the citizens of Israel for your tremendous support… a big thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
It will be several weeks now before Netanyahu is officially the Prime Minister. During that time he will negotiate with his coalition partners to decide who gets what ministerial position within the government.
