Those of us who have been to Israel can attest to our lives being meaningfully changed by the Holy Land. Indeed, it was my first journey to Israel that forever altered the course of my life. I set foot in Israel a tourist and left an avid Zionist!
In Israel, one sees the past, present, and future of the Jewish people all bound up in a nation roughly the size of Wales. Today, against the backdrop of familiar biblical accounts and sites, the Jewish people thrive in their ancient homeland while they protect the freedom and prosperity of all people and all faiths in the Middle East and throughout the Western world.
As Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer shared when he spoke during the Christians United for Israel 2020 Virtual Summit, Israel is the ancestral homeland of the Jews, “where the patriarchs of the Jewish people prayed, where our prophets preached, and where our kings ruled.”
Israel is also the place where Jesus walked, the apostles spread the good news of the Gospel, and where the early church was born. Today, this tiny nation is an amazingly diverse hub of creativity and innovation that fuels life-giving global technologies.
Israel also shows compassion by being a global leader in disaster response training. The Promised Land is a fascinating blend of the ancient and the inventively modern, while its people are kind, generous, and prosperous.
As the only truly democratic state in the Middle East, Israel is a beacon of hope for all who respect the value of all human life as image bearers of our Creator.
