A senior field commander for Hamas has been killed in an accidental explosion while he was preparing equipment over the weekend.

Mohammed Al Qoqa, 37, was a senior field commander for Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades. He was reportedly an explosives expert and a member of Hamas’ explosives development unit

An official statement was released by the Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades and said Al Qoqa was killed “in an accidental explosion during preparation work”.

“Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades mourned one of its martyrs from Ash-Shati, western Gaza, who was martyred during preparation work. Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades mourns the death of the Mujahed [Muslim holy fighter], [and] reaffirms the commitment and determination to continue the resistance against the belligerent occupation forces,” the statement read.

Al Qoqa was buried on Sunday at the Ash-Shati refugee camp in western Gaza in a large funeral procession orchestrated by Hamas.
